Program Overview

The age of literate machines – a visionary look at open source: Zak Greant

September 15th, 12:00pm - 12:45pm (PDT)

Video from this session will be streamed online. Check here for your local time.

Overview

This session tells three intertwined stories - one that begins with the birth of modern humanity, another that begins with the age of literate machines and the last that explains the real meaning of Free Software and Open Source to our society and our future. Along the way, we’ll visit ancient god-kings and accountants, long-dead muftis and heretics, blasphemous monarchs and monopolist printing guilds.

Bio

Zak Greant's love of Free Software and Open Source is turning him into a penguin. The only visible changes (so far) are a gradual accumulation of blubber, a loss of hair (which he hopes is the prelude to feather growth) and a growing preference for raw fish.

When not practicing how to waddle or wear a tuxedo, he passes the time by running the Foo Associates strategic consultancy and by working with eZ Systems, the Mozilla Foundation and various Free Software and Open Source projects and companies.
